Background

The Quantum Communications Hub is part of a national network of four hubs led by the Universities of Birmingham, Glasgow, Oxford and York.

The hubs represent the core investment of the UK National Quantum Technologies Programme, which aims to provide a test bed for the successful translation of quantum science into mainstream technological applications for economic benefit. The £120m initiative, part of a wider £270m government investment in quantum technologies, is being delivered by the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council (EPSRC) and Innovate UK, in partnership with bodies such as the Defence Science and Technology Laboratory, the National Physical Laboratory, the National Cyber Security Centre, the Department of Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy, and the Knowledge Transfer Network.
