IET launches Quantum Engineering Technical Network and Community Group

Emerging quantum technologies will have a major impact on engineering sectors ranging from satellites to computing platforms; numerous engineering disciplines will be needed to ensure the commercialisation and exploitation of quantum technologies.

In order to support this and to help to widen and grow the Quantum Engineering community, the Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET) has launched a new Quantum Engineering Technical Network (QETN). The network aims to bring together engineers working in quantum technologies to share knowledge and practice experience concerning the development of skills, products and applications and their underpinning technologies. It also aims to raise awareness of the developments and the need for engineering and technology engagement in the rapidly emerging Quantum Sector.

In parallel to the QETN , the IET has established a QETN Community Group, the group will enable the sharing of documents, events and news of developments and it is open to all, you do not have to be an IET Member to join and participate.

The IET has also organised a series of six webinars on Quantum Engineering, raising awareness of the new opportunities created in engineering by the emerging quantum technologies. The webinars include:

  • Quantum R&D is more than just Qubits and Quantum Computers!, 6 October 2020
  • Methods in Mind: Brain Imaging in the Quantum Age, 27 October 2020
  • Quantum Communications Technologies, 10 November 2020
  • Quantum Computing: where’s the engineering?, 24 November 2020
  • Quantum Enhanced Imaging research and development is testing the limits of imaging as we currently understand it!, 8 December 2020
  • The National Quantum Computing Centre: Quantum algorithms, applications and advantage, 15 December 2020

Events will be available to view on demand after they have taken place. For more information on these events visit the event website
