Mapping quantum across Europe

A comprehensive, interactive and searchable map of the quantum sector in Europe has been released. The map, which aims to showcase the variety of companies, funding opportunities and current research projects distributed across Europe, does so for Europe as a whole and on a country-by-country basis, with users able to filter the contents and drill down for more detail in each section.

The map was produced by the QuantERA Consortium, which is a network of 32 organisations from 27 countries, coordinated by the National Science Centre, Poland, supporting international research projects in the field of Quantum Technologies (QT).

Featuring on the map are 35 countries (including members of the EU and other non-member states such as the UK, Norway and Switzerland), 121 research funding organisations, 108 quantum companies, 20 Quantum Flagship projects, 39 EU research public databases, 717 research activities in different countries, 38 co-ordinated QuantERA projects and 32 Quantum Community Network members.

Alongside contributing to the map of the quantum sector in Europe, the UK’s Knowledge Transfer Network recently produced a similar open access tool that maps quantum investment and expertise within the UK. The UK Quantum Landscape tool includes businesses, research groups, projects funded through UK Research and Innovation (UKRI), UK national centres and postgraduate training centres and is intended to be used as a point of reference for quantum capabilities in the UK.
