This paper examines the feasibility of multi-mode Gaussian modulated continuous variable quantum key distribution (CV-QKD) systems for higher rate secure key generation at longer distances. We consider different multi-mode transmission scenarios and propose a feasible experimental set-up for a previously proposed multi-mode CV-QKD system with joint quadrature measurement [1]. We compare signal to noise ratios (SNR) of multi-mode schemes and show many fold improvements in the joint quadrature detection based CV-QKD system.
