“Consumer” QKD

Home>Research Community>About the Hub>Phase 2>“Consumer” QKD

Miniature, reliable, low-cost, handheld QKD  has the potential to provide the future contactless payment method, and there is a wide range of other early stage applications.  Major practical enhancements are being added to the current Hub system, while improving reliability and speed. There is further development of indoor systems that combine fibre QKD with free-space QKD; along with implementation of low-loss coupling of light fibre—free-space—fibre QKD systems. These will enable in-room architectures combining fibre distribution and LiFi/RF wireless to create future secure wireless systems. These systems will be eventually tested on the UKQN and provide security for backhaul links in next generation mobile networks.
